Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Tuesday it is recalling 494,000 medium and heavy-duty Ram pickup trucks, model years 2013-2017. The issue which caused this recall is that they could overheat and potentially cause a fire. The 2013-2017 model year Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups recalled have 6.7-liter diesel engines, including 443,000 vehicles in the United States. Lane departure warning and blind spot detection systems can significantly prevent crashes if consumers use the features, according to two new studies by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Single-vehicle, sideswipe and head-on crashes are reduced 11 percent if the vehicle is outfitted with lane departure warning systems, IIHS found. The rate of injury-inducing crashes decreases 21 percent with the technology.
