  • Automakers report October U.S. sales
    31 Oct 2016

General Motors, as well as other automakers, report October U.S. sales, amid concerns about waning demand, a potentially maxed-out auto-loan market and incentives' impacts on profits. However, Ford Motor will not be among them, as the automaker said that it will release results later this week due to a fire at its Dearborn, Michigan, headquarters that knocked out power to data systems.   General Motors, meanwhile, was expected to report October sales of 246,512 autos, down 6.3% year over year. U.S. sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are seen falling 10.6% to 178,2...

  • Lexus, Toyota and Buick top new auto reliability survey
    24 Oct 2016

Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus and Toyota brands held their lead atop Consumer Reports’ annual reliability rankings, while General Motors Co.’s 117-year-old Buick line became the first from the U.S. to win one of the list’s top three places. The survey, a buying bible to car shoppers that has been dominated by Japanese automakers, has more international representation this year. As other automakers catch up to Japan’s manufacturers, both Subaru and Honda tumbled from the top group of “more reliable” brands, with Honda’s Civic compact car losing its l...

  • While Honda's U.S. sales rise, capacity shrinks
    23 Oct 2016

Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo expects his company's U.S. sales to grow next year even as the market flattens, putting more pressure on North American production capacity that already is stretched to the limit. As a remedy, he soon may fire up Honda's Japan export engine. In an interview Hachigo said a blitz of key redesigns, starting this fall with the redesigned CR-V and continuing with updates to the Odyssey and Accord, will intensify the capacity problem.  Takahiro Hachigo said that if they reach 1.7 million U.S. sales this year, then they will probably add on top of that nex...

  • A historically strong September but not for GM and Ford
    17 Oct 2016

U.S. auto sales have been really strong this September, but it seems like this year dealership traffic appears to have lowered after more than six straight years of steady growth. Almost all the automakers: General Motors, Ford, Fiat Chrysler and Honda reported declines, but Asian counterparts like Toyota and Nissan managed to register growth. The seasonally adjusted annual rate for September stood at 17.45 million units. Retail sales have eased since solid numbers were seen in the second half of last year. As such automakers are heavily spending on discounts and incentives to keep their f...

  • September US auto sales: are the good times over?
    10 Oct 2016

September’s auto sales in the US stood at 1,428,000 vehicle units. This was ~0.5% lower than US auto sales of 1,435,000 vehicle units in September 2015. In August 2016, auto sales stood at 1,506,000 in the US.  The US auto industry has witnessed good times in the past couple of years. In 2015, US auto sales were at their peak, with ~17.4 million vehicles sold during the year. This certainly boosted the confidence of these automakers. However, it also ignited a debate about US auto sales being at peak levels and a possible downturn in US auto demand going forward. Through September 2...
