  • Kia Recalls Half A Million Vehicles In The U.S. Due To Airbag Problem
    13 Jun 2018

Following news in March that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was looking into reports of faulty airbags in cars made by Kia and its affiliate Hyundai, Kia has announced that it’s recalling more than half a million vehicles in the U.S. because of this issue.  The NHTSA decided to investigate this matter after learning of six accidents in which four people died and six were injured. In each of the crashes, the airbags failed to deploy because of an apparent electronic glitch. Kia is recalling 507,000 vehicles, including 2010-2013 Kia Fortes, 2011-2013 K...

  • Trump Tariffs May Cost Carmakers 1 Million Auto Sales a Year
    12 Jun 2018

If president Donald Trump slaps a 25 percent tariff on imported cars, it may cost the U.S auto industry 1 million annual car sales, and that’s just the low end of the estimated damage. The projection by researcher LMC Automotive assumes that automakers would absorb at least half the cost of a tax on imported vehicles.  If companies pass the full 25 percent cost on to consumers, it could snuff out about 2 million sales or more than 10 percent of annual U.S. deliveries. President’s order last month to investigate auto imports for potential trade penalties on national securi...

  • Auto Dealers Fear That Good Times Are Over As Interest Rates Rise
    11 Jun 2018

For car dealers, a sunny sales outlook at the start of 2018 has been overshadowed by rising interest rates, shrinking customer budgets and cost increases. Their optimism for the next quarter lost 14 points to just 56 on a 100-point scale, according to the Cox Automotive Dealer Sentiment Index.  The report, based on a survey of more than 1,000 independent and franchise car dealers from April 30 to May 14, shows prospective buyers grappling with tight finances despite a Republican tax cut that many sales executives had expected to boost consumer spending. The biggest challenges they re...

  • Volvo Wants A Third Of Its Cars Sold To Be Driverless By 2025
    07 Jun 2018

Volvo set out new ambitious targets for itself, saying it expects a third of all cars sold to be self-driving vehicles and half of all cars it offers to be available through its Care by Volvo subscription service, creating direct links to 5 million customers, all by the middle of the next decade.  These business goals add to previously stated target that half of Volvo’s car sales will be pure electric vehicles by 2025. Volvo thinks that these initiatives will help it transform its connection to consumers and help it develop new connected services for consumers and generate prem...

  • Used Car Market Shows Remarkable Resilience
    06 Jun 2018

The used car market continues to show remarkable resilience with values of two-year-old ex-PCP cars in May 2018 retaining 61% of their value new, a figure unchanged from May last year. Used car search company Cazana said the May performance was one point lower than April, which was reasonable considering the increased numbers of these PCPs car returning to the used car market.  Cazana added that diesel values were holding up well despite negative coverage and falling new diesel car sales. Diesel registrations fell for the 14th consecutive month, down 23.6% in May. In comparison to Ma...
