We’ve been waiting for something to change dramatically the automotive industry, just like the iPhone did to the mobile industry 10 years ago, and that one thing that could make it all different is the electrification of cars. The rise of Tesla and its rivals could be boosted by complementary services from Uber and Alphabet's Waymo unit, just as the iPhone rode the app economy and fast mobile internet to decimate mobile phone giants like Nokia. The culmination of these technologies — autonomous electric cars available on demand — could transform how people travel and...
Honda Motor Co is supporting the increased production of its revamped 2018 Accord sedan model at its plant in Ohio, by investing $267million and adding 300 new jobs. Honda unveiled the newest-generation Accord in July, one of four re-engineered midsize sedans that Asian automakers are betting on to win market share as Detroit rivals shift focus to SUVs, crossovers and pickup trucks. The new Accord, like rival Toyota Motor Corp's all-new Camry, offers more horsepower, safety technology like standard collision-avoiding braking and better fuel economy although Honda did not release...
As part of the broader plan to catch up with a shift away from sedans Hyundai Motor plans to launch a pickup truck in the United States. Hyundai's top management has given the green light for development of a pickup truck similar to a show vehicle called the Santa Cruz that U.S. Hyundai executives unveiled in 2015. Hyundai currently does not offer a pickup truck in the United States. Hyundai plans to launch a small SUV called Hyundai Kona in the United States later this year. People familiar with the automaker's plans said the pick-up truck is expected to be launched in...
As automakers are doing their best to get rid off too much inventory, buyers can expect sweeter deals on small and mid-size cars. This July wasn’t expected to be a good month for US car sales but at the same time, the data are not so bad. Overall auto sales fell 7% from a year earlier to 1.42 million vehicles. Buyers will eventually have fewer choices of passenger cars as automakers shift more of their engineering resources into crossovers, SUVs and pickups. Average discounts per vehicle rose 5% to about $3,600, compared with a year earlier. Meanwhile, transaction prices ...
Toyota Motor Corp. posted its first U.S. sales gain of the year, despite a continuing slide at Lexus, as light-truck deliveries overcame weakness in cars. The automaker's 2.1 percent increase ended a drought that had seen sales fall 4.7 percent through May. Lexus, however, dropped 5.4 percent, for its ninth consecutive monthly decline. Sales at Toyota Division, including a small number of vehicles from the defunct Scion brand, grew 3.2 percent last month to 177,981 vehicles. For the first half of the year, the automaker reported a sales drop of 3.6 percent compared with the same...
