BMW as always stuck to its “Ultimate Driving Machine” mantra, even though many of its models feature semi-autonomous technology designed to take away responsibility from the driver. BMW wants to keep people driving, and believes that modern consumers aren’t ready for fully autonomous cars. Ian Robertson, BMW’s special representative in the UK, said that fully autonomous cars may never happen due to regulatory hurdles. Consumers are excited by the prospect of a self-driving car, but governments haven’t had a chance to step in yet. And Robertson thinks th...
A report made by New York Times found that dozens of people have been poisoned by carbon monoxide since 2006 after failing to turn off the ignition on their keyless cars. More exactly, 28 of them died and 45 others suffered injuries. More than half of the vehicles sold annually in the US now have keyless ignitions. The keyless ignition system consists of a device that is carried by the driver, allowing him to start the car with a press of a button linked to the fob. If the key fob is not detected the car will not start. However, if the car has been started it will continue to run ev...
Ford said on Wednesday that the only passenger cars that it plans to keep on the North American market will be the Mustang and the upcoming Ford Focus Active which is a crossover-like hatchback that is due in 2019. By 2020, almost 90 percent of Ford’s portfolio in North America will be trucks, utilities, and commercial vehicles. The car manufacturer is exploring new vehicle models ...
Ford is making two safety recalls to fix some mechanical issues that affect the control of the transmission on several 2017 and 2018 models. The manufacturer is aware of one reported injury-causing accident related to the first and largest recall. This safety recall will affect almost 350,00 pickups and SUVs made in 2018. They want to fix a potentially unseated gear shift cable locking clip which can set the transmission in a different gear state than the one that the driver selects. That means the vehicle could move even when in parking mode, with no warning message on the da...
Ford Escape SUV was rated “poor” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for the new passenger side front crash test. Ford Escape was the only small SUV that failed. This test is the opposite of the driver’s side test that this institute is doing for five years now. It consists of a vehicle that is propelled at a speed of 40 miles per hour into a concrete barrier that is directed to the passenger’s side only. The idea behind the test is to replicate an accident where the vehicle collides with an object with just the passenger’s side. Wh...
