A report made by New York Times found that dozens of people have been poisoned by carbon monoxide since 2006 after failing to turn off the ignition on their keyless cars. More exactly, 28 of them died and 45 others suffered injuries. More than half of the vehicles sold annually in the US now have keyless ignitions. The keyless ignition system consists of a device that is carried by the driver, allowing him to start the car with a press of a button linked to the fob. If the key fob is not detected the car will not start. However, if the car has been started it will continue to run ev...
New car registration figures for March reveal a sharp drop in sales. The number of sales is 15.7 percent lower compared to the same month last year. A big part of that fall is due to bumper sales in March 2017, as drivers flooded the dealers to beat the then-new road tax system. The old tax model based on carbon dioxide was favorable to diesel cars. That’s because diesel-powered cars emit lesser CO2 than their petrol counterparts. Ford and Volkswagen have to face new problems, as a new coalition of environmental groups have launched a campaign to persuade automakers to live by their commitments for meeting emissions and fuel economy targets for the next decade. It accused the industry of colluding with the Trump administration to loosen the clean-car standards. The coalition initially plans to pressure Ford Motor Co. and Volkswagen Group of America to publicly support the fuel efficiency program, one of President Barack Obama's key initiatives for curbing greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. It w...
Ford Motor Co claims it will offer free repairs to North American owners of more than 1.4 million Explorer sport utility vehicles to help ensure that carbon monoxide and other exhaust gases cannot get into the vehicles, following the U.S. government's decision to upgrade an investigation into the issue in July. Several U.S. police agencies have raised concerns about potentially deadly carbon monoxide gas entering the cabins of Ford Explorers that had been adapted for law enforcement uses. Federal regulators have said they are aware of more than 2,700 complaints, three crashes an...
Rising commitment from major automakers, rapid battery cost declines, strong policy support from state and local governments, and low operational costs have put electric vehicles on track to pass gasoline-powered vehicles. EV sales in U.S. have grown to an average of 32% annually from 2012-2016 and 45% over the year ending June 2017. Considering these advantages, automakers and investors face several big questions: How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the United States? What penetration will they achieve, by when? How will these outcomes be affected by ...
