How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the U.S.?

Rising commitment from major automakers, rapid battery cost declines, strong policy support from state and local governments, and low operational costs have put electric vehicles on track to pass gasoline-powered vehicles. EV sales in U.S. have grown to an average of 32% annually from 2012-2016 and 45% over the year ending June 2017.

Considering these advantages, automakers and investors face several big questions: How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the United States?  What penetration will they achieve, by when?  How will these outcomes be affected by external factors like oil prices and government policy support? Energy Innovation has released an updated version of the Energy Policy Simulator (EPS) computer model.  This tool can assess the impacts of dozens of policies on emissions, cost/savings, early deaths from particulate pollution, and now, the composition of the U.S. vehicle fleet. By analyzing multiple scenarios in a new research note, the EPS forecasts EVs will make up 65% of new light-duty vehicle sales by 2050 , and EV sales could reach up to 75% by 2050 in the event of high oil prices or strong technology cost declines.

The EPS can estimate the market share of EVs in the U.S., both in the business-as-usual (BAU) case and in scenarios with a variety of relevant policies (such as a carbon tax, vehicle fuel economy standards, EV subsidies, an EV sales mandate, a low-carbon fuel standard, and more). BNEF projects a slow increase through 2021, faster through 2025, and then a dramatic acceleration through 2035, by which point, well over half of all new LDVs sold will be EVs. The EIA projects a very slow increase through 2026 and that the share will remain essentially flat after that point.

With winter on its way, the roads can be dangerous because it dries slower and road visibility as well as battery failure can also be hazardous. • Diesel Cars VS Electric Cars
    17 May 2019

Between loyal customers and car dealers lie an important dilemma that begs for an answer - What is the future of diesel cars and electric vehicles? Today at RepoKar, we are ready to tackle this predicament.Auto manufacturers and the combustible industries have often mentioned the idea that electric cars are worse for the environment than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles because they are powered by dirty electricity. If we want to talk about fuel efficiency, noise pollution, and air quality, then EVs are clearly the outright winner. But if we're talking about torque or initial price, the...

  • Fire Risk: BMW Recalls 185,000 Cars TODAY
    19 Apr 2019

The recall expansion covers 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4 models from the 2006 model year. The problem has been traced to irregularities in the manufacturing process that could allow moisture to occur near the PCV valve heater and lead to a short circuit. The PCV valve is an emissions device that keeps pollutants created by an engine from being released into the atmosphere. It also helps keep the engine oil clean and prevents crankcase pressure from building up. BMW warns its customers to stop driving the vehicle if there is smoke coming from the engine, or if the driver smells smoke or plast...
