  • Is it a good time to buy a car?
    12 Jan 2017

If you like to shop on cars then this year is the perfect one for you. Low interest rates and lots of high-tech choices in the market this year might open the doors to huge car discounts. It's a good time to buy a car now, and it should be for the rest of the year.  New-vehicle sales hit a record of 17.55 million in the U.S. last year. While they're not expected to top that this year, demand is still strong. Many of the factors that fueled sales last year are still in place, like solid consumer confidence and low gas prices. New technology like Apple CarPlay and automati...

  • December US auto sales come in at pace of 18.4 million
    04 Jan 2017

U.S. sales of new cars and trucks hit a record high in 2016, automakers said on Wednesday, and investors bid up shares in the sector as strong consumer confidence and relatively low fuel prices bolstered the industry's outlook. December sales rose 3 percent, and on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis were 18.43 million vehicles.   The results prompted executives from the three biggest sellers in the U.S. market, GM, Ford, and Toyota Motor Corp, (7203.T), to predict that this year's sales will be near 2016's record levels. U.S. consumer confidence reached levels not see...

  • Ford, FCA, GM close production plants
    28 Dec 2016

While U.S. auto sales are likely to set a record before 2016 draws to a close as it beats last year's mark of 17.5 million new cars and trucks, 2017 probably won't fare as well. In fact, it may surprise many people as Ford, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and General Motors are already closing production plants.  Although last year's record will be broken, there's already a decrease in sales this December and forecasts say that the trend will continue throughout 2017. Apparently the three largest manufacturers in the country, Ford, General Motors and FCA, are already gettin...

  • U.S. auto sales will probably decline slightly for December
    22 Dec 2016

As consumers keep snubbing sedans despite record consumer discounts, the U.S. auto sales will probably decline slightly for December. Specialists forecast manufacturers' discounts offered to close sales would hit a record high of more than $4,000 per vehicle in December.   The consultancies estimated sales at 17.5 million vehicles on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis this month, flat with a year ago. Detroit automakers are moving to cut production of certain vehicles, particularly small and mid-sized sedans, as they concede that the market is hitting a plateau where the...

  • Automakers managed to make the largest YOY sales gain since February
    04 Dec 2016

After three consecutive declines, automakers managed in November to make the largest year-over-year sales gain since February, posting a 3.6 percent gain. However, it took a big jump in incentives to make that happen. Those heavy incentives – now amounting to more than 12 percent of the industry's average transaction price – might be enough for 2016 to topple last year's record by a razor-thin margin. Going into December, U.S. sales were just 6,418 vehicles ahead of last year's pace, an increase of 0.04 percent.  November and December have become big months fo...
