  • New Tariffs Could Slow the Import of Chinese Made Cars
    05 Apr 2018

Donald Trump proposed a 25 percent tariff on some goods, including automobiles, imported from China. This could put a kink in the plans of Ford, GM, Volvo as well as the Chinese brand Guangzhou Automobile Group, who planned to enter the US market next year.  Volvo is importing S60 Inscription since 2015 from China; GM imports the Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid and Buick Envision; Ford was planning on starting to build the Focus Compact there and importing it.  China retaliated, announcing its own 25 percent tax on imports including chemicals, soybeans, aircraft, and cars...

  • All Cars in Europe Will Call The Police Themselves
    02 Apr 2018

After a car crash, some people may not have a clear enough head to do exactly what they need to do. They may forget to call or may wait too long. Some of them may be even unconscious or trapped inside the car.  But starting April 1st, 2018, the drivers in Europe don't have to worry about these things anymore because all the new cars will have to be equipped with eCall, a technology through which the cars will call the police themselves. • Automakers predicted a competitive December
    05 Dec 2017

Major automakers predicted a competitive December as they rushed to sell cars and boost their numbers before 2017 ends. Most of them posted mixed U.S. November new car sales. Now they're trying to sell down 2017 model-year vehicles, offering high discounts to consumers as the year-end nears. In 2016, the industry reported record annual sales of 17.55 million units.  Discounts have been above 10 percent of the average transaction price for 16 of the past 17 months. The National Automobile Dealers Association expects new vehicle sales to decline to 16.7 million units in 2018, after...

  • The new tax reform could force some dealerships in Texas to shutter
    29 Nov 2017

For people who live in such a big state as Texas, driving is more like a way of life. The average Texas motorist logs more than 16,000 miles behind the wheel each year, far more than the average American. Nationally, nearly 1 in 10 new vehicle registrations occurs in the Lone Star State.  The central role cars play in Texas means that policies that impact the automobile industry affect us more than most. The tax reform package being considered by Congress has many benefits — but a major wrinkle in the Senate version could force some dealerships in Texas to shutter. That would d...

    09 Nov 2017

The PSA Group has unveiled its plans to make Vauxhall and Opel a success following its acquisition of the firm earlier this year. Highlights include launching all future products on PSA platforms - including an all-new Corsa in 2019 - and setting the goal of keeping all current plants including Ellesmere Port and Luton in the UK open, although potentially on altered terms.  Vauxhall and Opel declared losses of £190 million in the second quarter of 2017; daily losses at the firm under GM ownership were estimated to be in the region of £3m on average.
