Volkswagen has agreed last year to offer to buy back up to 475,000 2.0 liter diesel vehicles that had been sold in the U.S. and now its plan for 84,000 older Volkswagen diesel vehicles has been approved by the U.S. Envirnomantal Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board. Friday's announcement covers a fix for 84,390 2012-2014 Passat diesel vehicles with automatic transmissions. A fix for vehicles with manual transmissions has not yet been approved. In January, regulators approved a fix for 67,000 2015 model diesels, leaving around 325,000 older vehicles still awaiting...
Now that Mercedes Benz has announced to pause its U.S. diesel plans we feel like country’s auto sales feel another blow. Daimler revealed that it had to obtain certification to sell 2017 diesel models in U.S. from U.S. environmental regulators, but it didn’t. The outlook is now growing cloudier as scrutiny from the Environmental Protection Agency keeps models off the market and the costs rise to meet toughening pollution rules. Mercedes says that fewer than one out of every 100 cars sold in the U.S. is a diesel. Diesel’s future has been relegated back to what ...
California environmental regulators, taking a defiant stand against President Donald Trump on climate change, reaffirmed their commitment Thursday to tough standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars. The California Air Resources Board voted unanimously to move ahead with progressively stricter tailpipe emissions regulations, along with a separate mandate that requires automakers to sell more zero-emissions vehicles. The vote on greenhouse gas restrictions suggests a potentially bruising legal battle with the White House could be coming. Trump last week ordered the U.S. E...
U.S. light vehicles from the 2016 model year will be the first to fall short of federal fuel economy targets in more than a decade, according to a new projection from regulators that could buttress a push by automakers to ease efficiency standards. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration forecasts that 2016 models will average 32.1 miles per gallon, below the target of 32.8. The agency forecasts another shortfall in model year 2017 of 31.8 miles per gallon compared to a projected target of 33. The U.S. fleet has exceeded industrywide fuel economy targets every year since ...
Criminal proceedings against Volkswagen Group’s diesel-emission scandal has been started in Luxembourg. Regulators had been cheated by car manufacturers. European Union country's infrastructure minister said it was lodging a complaint with prosecutors without naming any of the parties under suspicion. He said that due to a large probability that a defeat device was used, they decided to launch a lawsuit. In documents handed out to reporters at a news conference, Luxembourg's infrastructure ministry described itself as a victim of criminal action that led it to certify ...
