Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is recalling 1.9 million vehicles worldwide for an airbag defect that is linked to three deaths and five injuries. The aim of this recall is to resolve a defect that may prevent deployment of airbags and seat-belt pretensioners in some crashes. The recall includes models sold between 2010 and 2014, including the Chrysler Sebring, 200, Dodge Caliber, Avenger, Jeep Patriot and Compass SUVs. The data shows that about 1.4 million of the vehicles covered by the recall are in the U.S. Another 142,959 units are in Canada. The recall is the latest in a seri...
Strong U.S. consumer spending might lose a pillar of support. Auto sales have been a bright spot for overall U.S. retail sales of late, mostly holding up in good months and bad. Even in July, when retail sales missed expectations, sales at autos and parts dealers rose. But disappointing auto-industry figures unveiled earlier this month are a concern. And it is the auto dealers that might go from positive catalyst to deterrent in Thursday’s retail-sales report, one of the final major economic data points the Federal Reserve will consider before its highly anticipated policy mee...
After GM finally admitted that 3.64 million vehicles in the U.S. are equipped with airbags, which could possibly not deploy, a large recall of it has started. People are afraid of crashes which might happen with anyone, and in a critical moment the airbags which need to deploy, won't. General Motors was forced to announce a recall of numerous 2014-17 models, on which the issue needs to get fixed, because it could also disable seatbelt pretensioners. Of course, there are still some circumstances which remain as a mystery to us, for example why they have found out about the proble...
Ford today announced plans to build a fully autonomous vehicle within five years. The car will have no steering wheel, gas pedal or brake pedal, and it will be used for ride-sharing or ride hailing services. Ford made no mention of when the public will be able to buy such a vehicle.“The next decade will be defined by automation of the automobile, and we see autonomous vehicles as having as significant an impact on society as Ford’s moving assembly line did 100 years ago,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO. Ford's entry will be a high-volume SAE level 4 autonomous v...
The U.S. automotive industry has been through a rough few years filled with massive recalls, congressional hearings, record fines, and allegations, at times, of a careless, shoddy approach to safety. Still, this does not prevent them to buy cars and trucks at record levels and at record prices. John Humphrey, senior vice president of J.D. Power’s global automotive practice, said that the number of recalls is very big and yet the industry is selling more cars than ever. Legendary consumer safety advocate Ralph Nader said that the cars are much safer, less polluting, modestly f...
