The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday it was rejecting a petition by Ford to delay recall of about 3 million cars with potentially defective Takata airbag inflators. The agency said it did not find the request by the second largest U.S. automaker to defer a recall until additional testing was conducted "reasonable under the circumstances or supported by the testing and data it has collected to date." Takata inflators can explode with excessive force, unleashing metal shrapnel inside cars and trucks. At least 18 deaths and 180 injuries world...
There are some serious issues on the 2017-18 Infiniti QX30 crossovers. Because of poor grounding of steering components could cause the driver-side airbag to deploy, potentially injuring the driver and resulting in a crash. This is why Nissan North America decided to recall all of them. The company notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last week after receiving information about the potential problem in September from supplier Daimler AG. Nissan said 17,507 vehicles are affected. Vehicle owners will begin to receive notifications about the problem and how to ge...
BMW AG is recalling about 1 million vehicles in North America for two separate issues involving fire risks and said it may expand the recalls to other countries. One recall covers 670,000 2006-2011 U.S. 3-Series vehicles to address a wiring issue for heating and air conditioning systems that may overheat and could increase the risk of a fire. The second recall covers 740,000 U.S. 2007-2011 vehicles with a valve heater that could rust and lead to a fire in rare cases. The recall includes some 128i vehicles, 3-Series, 5-Series and X3, X5 and Z4 vehicles. BMW spokesman Michael Rebstock...
The hurricane recovery and the strong truck and SUV sales weren’t enough to keep the U.S. car sales high in October. Sales for the month fell 1.3 percent compared with a year ago as slowing demand made it almost certain that 2017 will be the first year with declining sales in seven years. Full-year sales almost certainly will fall below last year's record of more than 17.5 million, although most analysts say demand is still healthy. Automakers reported selling 1.35 million vehicles for the month. Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen all reported gains for October on ...
A new coalition off major automakers, suppliers and auto dealers is being launched, it will try to urge President Donald Trump not to withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement. Nearly every major automaker is part of it: General Motors, Toyota Motor Corp., Volkswagen AG, Hyundai Motor Co., Ford Motor Co. and few others. They are backing an advertising campaign to convince the White House and voters that the agreement has been crucial in boosting U.S. automotive sector production and jobs. Trump has threatened to withdraw from the trade deal with U.S., Canada and Mexico, which ...
