FCA says it is recalling 1.33 million vehicles worldwide in two separate campaigns for potential fire risks and inadvertent airbag deployments. The automaker said it is recalling about 770,000 SUVs because of a wiring issue that may lead to inadvertent deployment of the driver-side airbag and is linked to reports of five related minor injuries, but no crashes. The company said wiring could chafe against pieces of steering-wheel trim, potentially causing a short-circuit and ultimately leading to an inadvertent airbag deployment. The recall covers 538,000 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehi...
Takata Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan and the U.S., after the world’s biggest automotive recall scandal. The company will be bought by the U.S. supplier Key Safety for $1.59 billion. The sale will not include some operations related to Takata’s business in the ammonium nitrate airbag inflators that were the subject of a global recall linked to defects that resulted in some airbags exploding with too much force and spraying the cabin with metal shards. Malfunctioning Takata airbag inflators have been linked to at least 16 deaths and 180 injuries worldwide ...
General Motors promised us other things but that’s how it all turned to be, even if it said it will invest $1 billion in U.S. factories now it announced to temporarily cut off 1,100 workers in May as its Lansing Delta Township assembly plant in Michigan shifts production to Tennessee. The Lansing plant will continue building the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse after it retools for a month. GM also has announced other U.S. factory cuts. U.S. President Donald Trump ha...
We were expecting for car sales to calm down in February, but despite all the expectations and predictions we were still hoping for better results. Bad news, U.S. auto sales showed to be even less resilient this month than anticipated. If we have to compare these results with February last year, than they are down 1.1%. Automakers like General Motors (GM), American Honda Motor Co., and Nissan North America reported new-car sales gains from a year ago. Volkswagen Group, plus the premium German nameplates and three independent brands, also posted sales increases. However, Ford Motor Co. (Ford) a...
Fiat Chrysler vehicles were allowed to skip key tests for illegal engine software during Italy's main emissions-cheating investigation in the wake of the Volkswagen Group scandal. The report, presented to a European parliamentary committee in October but never officially published, will be seized upon by environmental groups pressing lawmakers to vote on Thursday for tougher EU oversight of vehicle testing by national authorities. The ministry findings, which have been circulated by some Italian opposition politicians and examined by Reuters, include complete sets of data for e...
