Criminal proceedings against Volkswagen Group’s diesel-emission scandal has been started in Luxembourg. Regulators had been cheated by car manufacturers. European Union country's infrastructure minister said it was lodging a complaint with prosecutors without naming any of the parties under suspicion. He said that due to a large probability that a defeat device was used, they decided to launch a lawsuit.  In documents handed out to reporters at a news conference, Luxembourg's infrastructure ministry described itself as a victim of criminal action that led it to certify ...

  • Japan responds to Donald Trump's trade pressure
    30 Jan 2017

It didn't took look for Japan to give an answer to the intensifying trade pressure from US President Donald Trump with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe rumored to be meeting the head of Toyota Motor Corp this week and business lobby Keidanren setting up a Trump task force. On February 10 he will visit Washington in order to discuss the issue with the US leader, and we expect them to find a solution towards the trade deal between the countries, and of course the automotive sector.  Ahead of those talks, Abe will meet with Toyota Chief Executive Akio Toyoda. • The US auto industry may surprise us in 2017
    21 Dec 2016

As 2016 is almost over, the U.S. auto market is on the verge of setting a new sales record, beating last year's mark of 17.5 million new cars and trucks. • Retail demand of autos in U.S. softened this November
    29 Nov 2016

Black Friday sales and the start of year-end deals are helping, but can’t quite disguise that in all probability, retail demand for autos actually softened in November. That’s despite a near-record average discount of $3,886 per unit, up 15% from November 2015.  On Thursday, Dec. 1, U.S. automakers are expected to report November sales. The good news is, sales may be softening, but that’s compared with record levels last year. On a pessimistic or realistic note, depending on your point of view, retail auto sales are expected to decline about 2% in November 2016 vs. ...

  • General Motors is laying off 2000 workers
    09 Nov 2016

Bad news don't come alone, so as the car sales decline from month to month, General Motors said it will lay off 2,000 workers because of slowing car sales even as it makes new investments in its plants.  GM said it plans to cut the third shift at its Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan and Lordstown Assembly Plant in Ohio in January because sales of cars made at those plants are declining. The automaker assembles the Cadillac ATS and CTS and the Chevrolet Camaro at its plant in Lansing and makes the Chevrolet Cruze at its plant in Lordstown. GM had a slight increase in...
