Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s U.S. unit failed to persuade a federal judge to throw out an antitrust lawsuit claiming it pushed dealers to submit fraudulent sales numbers to prop up the carmaker’s share price. Two dealerships owned by the Napleton Auto Group, including Napleton’s Arlington Heights Motors in Illinois, originally sued Fiat Chrysler in January, alleging racketeering, violations of antitrust laws and breach of contract. September 2016 sales are up 1.2% compared to the same month last year. The Macan continues to lead in volume with 1,998 vehicle sales, a 72.2% increase over September 2015. It's three-quarters of the way through the year, and green-car watchers can probably surmise that 2016 won't likely be a banner year for sales of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, or – gasp – diesels. Through September, US green-car sales have fallen a solid 19 percent from a year earlier to about 321,000 units. A look at the top-selling new vehicles in the first nine months of the year shows that the U.S.' big three automakers are still the kings.
