  • Volvo revealed double-digit earnings for 2016
    08 Feb 2017

Volvo was doing really good in 2016 and its revealed double-digit earning improvements proves that. The automaker forecasts a fourth consecutive year of record sales for 2017, in this goal it will be helped by the arrival of new models such as second-generation XC60 and the all-new XC40.  Operating profit rose 66 percent to 11.0 billion Swedish crowns ($1.24 billion) and revenue increased 10 percent to 180.7 billion crowns. That helped improve the automaker's profit margin to 6.1 percent compared with a 4 percent margin in 2015. Since being bought by China's Zhejiang Geely Ho...

  • BMW X models boosted January sales
    06 Feb 2017

BMW announced that sales of BMW X models made in Spartanburg County helped boost the total number of BMW brand vehicles sold in January. BMW North America President and CEO Ludwig Willisch claims that the increased availability of the highly popular BMW X models is paying off as X model U.S. sales in January topped the all-important 50 percent mark for the second month in a row.  He also added that the company is very much looking forward to the launch of its brilliant next generation 5 Series. BMW North America reported sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 0.1 percent in January fo...

  • Green car sales will show steady growth in 2017?
    11 Jan 2017

2016 was the third straight year Americans bought fewer hybrids, plug-ins, and diesels than the year before. Even so, we have all the signs for the industry to get well in 2017, and show positive sales and new records. Last year, green car sales fell about 11 percent from the previous year, to about 446,000 units. We say "about" because Tesla Motors continues to be cagey when it comes to breaking out how many of its electric vehicles were purchased in the US, while South Korea's Hyundai and its sister company Kia are among those who won't break out hybrid sales at all. 2...

  • Samsung to buy Harman International in an $8 billion bet on cars
    14 Nov 2016

Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant — which already makes popular but recently problem-plagued smartphones — said on Monday that it had agreed to buy Harman International Industries, an American automotive technology company, in an ambitious push into a whole different kind of mobile. Harman is best known for making car audio systems under brand names popular with audiophiles such as Harman/Kardon and JBL. But Harman’s appeal to Samsung comes from what it calls its connected car business — an operation that supplies a car’s navigation services, its onboard...

  • US electric car sales continue to trend up
    07 Nov 2016

Despite many buyers holding out for a coming Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3, US electric car sales are doing great. Based on sales estimates for Tesla models (since Tesla doesn’t break out sales by month or by country), the Model S dropped to #2 and the Model X held onto #3 in the US car market, while the Chevy Volt rose to #1. However, if you look at how close sales of these models are and take into account that Tesla delivered ~3,000 more Model S sedans in the US, it’s hard to know how the top 3 ranking actually plays out.  After the top 3, though, there’s a signifi...
