As 2016 is almost over, the U.S. auto market is on the verge of setting a new sales record, beating last year's mark of 17.5 million new cars and trucks. Auto sales have been booming for several years, powered by a combination of cheap gas, easy credit, and pent-up demand. And with the unemployment rate now below 5%, there are plenty of Americans who now need a reliable, technologically up-to-date vehicle to get to and from work. Although some analysts think the market has plateaued and that there's no more growth to be had, the fundamentals point to continued strong sales b...

The judge said the plaintiffs failed to show they actually viewed any of Mercedes' advertisements touting the cleaner technology. He gave them leave to revise their complaint. Automakers that market diese...

But there's more to the story of what was easily this year's most impressive month for green-car sales. Americans bought more than 39,000 green cars in November, marking a 26-percent surge from a year earlier. For comparison purposes, October a...
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer on Tuesday delayed a court hearing set for Wednesday on Volkswagen Group's plan to address 80,000 polluting Audi, Porsche and VW 3.0-liter vehicles. In a court order, Breyer said negotiations are continuing between the German automaker, regulators and lawyers representing owners, and he set a Dec. 16 hearing, saying he had been advised that a delay "may produce a resolution of the outstanding issues." VW had reached an agreement with U.S. regulators for a mix of buybacks and fixes for the 80,000 vehicles, but still needed to reach agreement on o...
