Toyota Motor North America is recalling about 228,000 2016 and 2017 Toyota Tacoma midsize pickups in the U.S. because their rear differentials may leak oil. Differentials leaking oil could become damaged and stop working, causing a loss of vehicle control, Toyota said in a statement Thursday. Damaged rear differentials also create noise and reduce propulsion if the vehicle is driven without being repaired. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recalls page includes a complaint a driver from Honolulu who said on Dec. 18, 2015, that the differential on the his or her 2016...
Growing up in suburban Detroit, dealer Katie Bowman Coleman lived too far from her dad's rural dealership to work summers there. Instead she sold clothes, which interested her far more than cars anyway. Coleman, now president of Bowman Chevrolet in Clarkston, Mich, says she watched her dad go through a lot of hard knocks in the car business. That was influential to making her think she was not sure she wanted to go into that business. But she was always interested in retail and she liked fashion. It’s been a week since the fierce debate has started, and now it’s official, California’s Legislature approved the plan of raising gas taxes and vehicle fees by $5.2 billion a year to pay for the repair of California’s pothole-ridden, decaying system of roads, highways and bridges. The bill squeaked through the Senate on a 27-11 vote and cleared the Assembly with 54 votes, the bare minimum required in both houses. The measure sparked suspenseful wrangling in the waning hours of Thursday initially three votes short of securing the two-thirds threshold ne...
We knew that Donald Trump is somehow pressing U.S. automakers to build new factories and offer more jobs, but he may have to settle for plant overhauls and incremental job expansions such as Ford Motor Co.’s planned $1.2 billion investment in three Michigan factories that’s expected to create at least 100 jobs. Trump pushed automakers during a roundtable in Ypsilanti Township earlier this month for more U.S. plants, and in a speech to autoworkers the same day he said plants are coming back — other plants that were expected to be built in other countries are not being bui...
