One sector of the U.S. automotive industry will be quite unhappy at the announcement of the new car brand, from the Chinese industrial group Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. We are talking about the franchised car dealers. The new brand, aimed at Millennials, is likely to be sold under a non-traditional retailing approach, according to cryptic postings on various websites. Geely and Volvo, which Geely owns, likely are planning to sell via the Internet and company-owned stores, not through franchised dealers. The president of Colorado's automobile association considers that it wouldn't make financial sense to open car dealerships on Sunday. Nevertheless, eliminating the Sunday prohibition on auto sales will be among dozens of recommendations headed to Colorado lawmakers in 2017. The recommendations are part of the annual review by the Department of Regulatory Agencies on state regulations set to sunset. It's been not so long since Ford announced the launch on the markets of its new Lincoln Continental, and now the automaker announced that the new vehicles are being recalled. The safety compliance recall covers 1,876 Continentals built from June 14 to Sept. 23 at Ford's Flat Rock factory sou...

Two dealerships owned by the Napleton Auto Group, including Napleton’s Arlington Heights Motors in Illinois, originally sued Fiat Chrysler in January, alleging racketeering, violations of antitrust laws and breach of contract. The original suit was never served on FCA and an amended complaint was filed in March. FCA denied the allegations in the suit. U.S. D...
Volvo's CEO says that Volvo Car USA has turned the corner with two of its 90-series vehicles on sale and others due early next year. A U.S. sales increase of 29 percent through August is evidence that Volvo's gutsy revival strategy was the right choice. Volvo is building all its vehicles on its flexible Scalable Product Architecture, or SPA. And it is using only turbo and supercharged Drive-E engines paired with optional plug-in hybrid power. Lex Kerssemakers says that the company is on a turnaround in the U.S. that started with the XC90. Volvo was starved for product for y...
