BMW AG is recalling about 1 million vehicles in North America for two separate issues involving fire risks and said it may expand the recalls to other countries. One recall covers 670,000 2006-2011 U.S. 3-Series vehicles to address a wiring issue for heating and air conditioning systems that may overheat and could increase the risk of a fire. Takata Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan and the U.S., after the world’s biggest automotive recall scandal. The company will be bought by the U.S. supplier Key Safety for $1.59 billion. Toyota Motor North America is recalling about 228,000 2016 and 2017 Toyota Tacoma midsize pickups in the U.S. because their rear differentials may leak oil. Differentials leaking oil could become damaged and stop working, causing a loss of vehicle control, Toyota said in a statement Thursday. New York’s attorney general has reached legal settlements with 104 dealerships it identified as having sold vehicles without disclosing open safety recalls. As part of the settlement, reached on Friday with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, those dealers must now notify customers two days before a sale of an unrepaired vehicle that no repair has been completed. Franchise dealerships are also required to provide loaner vehicles to customers if repairs to their recalled vehicles take more than one day to complete.
