Are dealerships selling vehicles with open recalls?

New York’s attorney general has reached legal settlements with 104 dealerships it identified as having sold vehicles without disclosing open safety recalls. As part of the settlement, reached on Friday with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, those dealers must now notify customers two days before a sale of an unrepaired vehicle that no repair has been completed. Franchise dealerships are also required to provide loaner vehicles to customers if repairs to their recalled vehicles take more than one day to complete.

The settlement comes following an investigation by the New York attorney general’s office into dealers selling recalled vehicles to consumers without repairing or disclosing the recalls. The office said it found evidence of hundreds of such vehicles being sold to consumers from those 104 dealerships. Eric Schneiderman says that the safety recalls they uncovered were very serious and potentially deadly. Consumers deserve to know of any unresolved safety issues before buying a car for themselves or their family. He encourages all car dealerships across the state to follow their guidelines to ensure that they too uphold the highest standards of consumer safety.

Other requirements as part of the settlements include requiring dealers to disclose in advertising if the vehicle in under a recall and placing a decal notice onto used cars under recall. Each dealer is also subject to a $1,000 fine.

  • Diesel Cars VS Electric Cars

Between loyal customers and car dealers lie an important dilemma that begs for an answer - What is the future of diesel cars and electric vehicles? Today at RepoKar, we are ready to tackle this predicament.Auto manufacturers and the combustible industries have often mentioned the idea that electric cars are worse for the environment than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles because they are powered by dirty electricity. If we want to talk about fuel efficiency, noise pollution, and air quality, then EVs are clearly the outright winner. But if we're talking about torque or initial price, the...

  • Fire Risk: BMW Recalls 185,000 Cars TODAY
    19 Apr 2019

The recall expansion covers 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4 models from the 2006 model year. The problem has been traced to irregularities in the manufacturing process that could allow moisture to occur near the PCV valve heater and lead to a short circuit. The PCV valve is an emissions device that keeps pollutants created by an engine from being released into the atmosphere. It also helps keep the engine oil clean and prevents crankcase pressure from building up. BMW warns its customers to stop driving the vehicle if there is smoke coming from the engine, or if the driver smells smoke or plast...
