  • US electric sales growing 59% year over year
    05 Feb 2017

It seems like US electric sales continue to climb to new heights in 2017. Growing 59% year over year, approximately 12.000 electric cars were sold across the country, accounting for approximately 1% of US auto sales. Tesla and GM are pulling the market forward. Even with GM and Tesla taking the biggest part of the market, Toyota Prius stays on top. Essentially, Tesla and GM are pulling the market forward. The Nissan LEAF — introduced all the way back in 2011 — is still hanging in well above the crowd as well, though. Again, its success relative to other models is quite si...

  • New hope for U.S. car sales: former Volkswagen diesel owners
    01 Feb 2017

For nearly a year and a half, the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal has been making headlines. While the headaches might not be over for Volkswagen executives, they could be coming to an end for U.S. owners of Audi, Porsche, and VW vehicles illegally designed to cheat on emissions tests. In fact, some believe that there could be a silver lining to Dieselgate's dark clouds: a small surge in auto sales, similar to the one spawned by the U.S. government's Cash-for-Clunkers program in the wake of the Great Recession.  Car sales in America are going strong, but the rate of growth has ...

  • Car companies race to top their own year-ago numbers
    31 Jan 2017

Let’s expect flat U.S. auto sales for the month of January, cause there are no hopes or reasons for them to be different. A very high level of incentives is sustaining U.S. automobile sales on a high plateau.  This January the average spending per unit was $3,614, which means it’s up $232 from January 2016, not a bad result though considering the expectations we had. High prices match the high level of incentives. The average new-vehicle retail transaction price in January was $31,473, a record for the month. That’s the total price, net of incentives. It would be a ...

  • Japan responds to Donald Trump's trade pressure
    30 Jan 2017

It didn't took look for Japan to give an answer to the intensifying trade pressure from US President Donald Trump with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe rumored to be meeting the head of Toyota Motor Corp this week and business lobby Keidanren setting up a Trump task force. On February 10 he will visit Washington in order to discuss the issue with the US leader, and we expect them to find a solution towards the trade deal between the countries, and of course the automotive sector.  Ahead of those talks, Abe will meet with Toyota Chief Executive Akio Toyoda. One of them said the meeting w...

  • Ford auto sales beat expectations once again?
    29 Jan 2017

Ford dealers and Ford executives sounded a typically optimistic note at this year's National Automobile Dealers Association convention here, based on record U.S. auto sales in 2016 and growing confidence that even if auto sales decline a bit in 2017, they won't decline much.  Dealers are concerned about a drop in car sales as opposed to trucks, but all in all he said dealers are happy with Ford's current product lineup. They do have concerns about car models – as the whole industry does – as to what the public wants. Forecasts for 2017 call...
