Automakers are on pace to build more new cars and light trucks in 2016 than in any other year, but efforts to reduce bloated inventories next year could lead to North America's first production decline since the Great Recession. Record car sales paces in the U.S., Canada and Mexico have kept plants busy. About 15 North American plants reportedly were running overtime through last week, nearly four times as many as the same period a year ago. Most of those plants build trucks. But automakers are already preparing for a production reckoning in 2017. Ford Motor Co., General Motors ...
Fiat Chrysler dealers will have to wait a bit longer for two highly anticipated big-ticket vehicles: a fully redesigned Ram heavy-duty pickup and a luxury SUV for Jeep, the Grand Wagoneer. It became clear that FCA's Ram brand will not redesign its current heavy-duty pickups onto its new DT pickup platform in 2018 but instead will keep the same body-in-white and refresh the existing DS-based model. UBS auto analyst Colin Langan published a research note this week in which he assessed the impact of Congress' corporate tax reform plan — primarily a tax cut and a deal to repatriate offshore c...

These vehicles were on their way to the Port of Charleston, S.C., for export to overseas markets. BMW said damaged models include the BMW X3, X4, X5 and X6 but did not specify how many of each model was damaged. The vehicles were heading to Charleston from BMW’s plant near Spartanburg, S.C., which exports about 70 percent of all X models manufactured at the plant. BMW personnel are traveling to the scene and will...
