Ever wondered about the different ways of how automotive fascination has affected people's lives? Well, we can give one way- through music. Whether it is a song about showing off a new Cadillac, or just some cheesy love song about how a guy loves his car more than he loves his woman (ouch!), the automotive world even reached the realm of music. AND when these two things get together, we know we have some good stuff! As music lovers, we would like to share some car songs that we thought had demonstrated that bond between music and cars.
1.) Slow Ride by Foghat
Released in 1975, a time where almost every car made was a slow ride... This song was a great classic, and some might recognize this hit song in a Guitar Hero 3 game!
2.) Racing in the Streets by Bruce Springsteen
"We take all the action we can meet and we cover all the north east state. When the strip shuts down we run 'em in the street, from the fire roads to the interstate." This song is actually one of the most legit car songs back then.
3.) Shut Down by the Beach Boys
I remember listening to this song when I was little and not remembering what it actually meant (because it's all about the Beach Boys eh?) But if you check back and listen to it again, this piece is a great classic about street-racing.
4.) Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts
To all 21st century music lovers out there, here you go! Originally by Tom Cochran, this great song was included in the Cars movie and was used as a soundtrack. With the words, "Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long. If you're going my way, I wanna drive it all night long," this songs totally makes this list.
5.) Hot Rod Lincoln by Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen
Now we're talkin'! This is quality music right here. The song was originally written and recorded in 1955 and 1959, but the most famous and oft-heard is the 1972 release.
6.) Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf
This song was not all about cars- according to its classic lyrics. However, the song itself begins with getting your motor running and heading out on the highway. So, might as well add this great song in the list.
7.) Cadillac in the Motion Picture "Dreamgirls"
Broadway lovers? Jazz lovers? Well, here's one for you! This song was performed countless of times in Broadway as part of the musical "Dreamgirls." If you have seen the movie version, then you'll know it's that one where Beyonce sang her pop hit "Listen." The lyrics of this songs is totally about having and loving a Cadillac. "Antenna's up. Top is down. In and out, don't care where I'm bound!
