While Honda's U.S. sales rise, capacity shrinks

Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo expects his company's U.S. sales to grow next year even as the market flattens, putting more pressure on North American production capacity that already is stretched to the limit. As a remedy, he soon may fire up Honda's Japan export engine. In an interview Hachigo said a blitz of key redesigns, starting this fall with the redesigned CR-V and continuing with updates to the Odyssey and Accord, will intensify the capacity problem.

Takahiro Hachigo said that if they reach 1.7 million U.S. sales this year, then they will probably add on top of that next year with the new models coming in and such. His upbeat outlook contrasts with a forecast for total U.S. demand to be flat, at best, in 2017. American Honda sold about 1.6 million vehicles in 2015, and Hachigo says he wants to keep stoking the increase by realigning production to feed more light trucks into the market. Next year, Honda will add CR-V crossover production to its Greensburg, Ind., plant that makes the Civic and add Acura MDX crossover production to its East Liberty, Ohio, plant.

If those tweaks still don't satisfy demand, Hachigo said Honda will tap overseas factories. Honda's plant in Britain may send Civics to make room stateside for more CR-V output. But more likely, Honda will tap its Japan plants for more CR-Vs or Civics. Doing so would help Honda with a big headache of overcapacity in Japan.

Hundred of thousands of BMW owners found out that their cars may have the same fault as the one that caused a death in a crash in 2016. Narayan Gurung died on Christmas Day 2016 when he crashed into a tree in Hampshire while swerving to avoid a BMW which stalled due to an electrical fault. An investigation by BBC Watchdog, t...

  • Diesel Cars VS Electric Cars
    17 May 2019

Between loyal customers and car dealers lie an important dilemma that begs for an answer - What is the future of diesel cars and electric vehicles? Today at RepoKar, we are ready to tackle this predicament.Auto manufacturers and the combustible industries have often mentioned the idea that electric cars are worse for the environment than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles because they are powered by dirty electricity. If we want to talk about fuel efficiency, noise pollution, and air quality, then EVs are clearly the outright winner. But if we're talking about torque or initial price, the...

  • Fire Risk: BMW Recalls 185,000 Cars TODAY
    19 Apr 2019

The recall expansion covers 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4 models from the 2006 model year. The problem has been traced to irregularities in the manufacturing process that could allow moisture to occur near the PCV valve heater and lead to a short circuit. The PCV valve is an emissions device that keeps pollutants created by an engine from being released into the atmosphere. It also helps keep the engine oil clean and prevents crankcase pressure from building up. BMW warns its customers to stop driving the vehicle if there is smoke coming from the engine, or if the driver smells smoke or plast...
