Nissan, Toyota U.S. sales up, Honda sales are down

Japanese automakers Toyota Motor and Nissan Group posted U.S. sales increases in September, while Honda sales were flat, despite projections of an overall industry decline for the month. Toyota's sales rose 1.5% for the month to 197,260 vehicles, as the company's namesake Toyota brand rose 1.4% and its luxury Lexus brand increased 2%. American Honda sold 133,655 units in September, just 95 fewer than it sold a year earlier. The namesake Honda brand recorded a 1.5% increase, while the Acura luxury brand fell 12.9%.

Nissan Group posted a surprisingly strong month for U.S. sales in September, recording 4.9% growth compared to a year earlier after several forecasts of sales declines. Judy Wheeler, vice president of sales for the Nissan division, said trucks and SUVs led the way. Sales of the Murano and Rogue set sales records. The Japanese automaker sold 127,797 vehicles in the U.S. market, including 4.3% growth for its namesake Nissan brand and 11.7% growth for its luxury Infiniti brand. Discounts might have helped, too. Nissan incentives rose 12.1% in September, compared to a year earlier, to $3,896 per vehicle.

German automaker Volkswagen's namesake brand struggled again, recording a 7.8% decline to 24,112 units. Its luxury Audi brand gained 1.6% to 17,617 vehicles. Auto sales have plateaued near 2015's record pace of 17.5 million units per year. With gas prices steady at slightly more than $2-per-gallon nationally, consumers are flocking to bigger, more profitable vehicles and ditching small cars. For Nissan, that translated into a 20% increase in sales of crossovers, sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks. The Murano crossover, for example, soared 45.9% to 7,536 units. The Rogue crossover increased 5.6% to 26,459 vehicles, making it the automaker's most popular vehicle for the month. It was a similar story at Toyota, where sales of Toyota brand crossovers, pickups and SUVs rose 11.5% and Toyota brand cars fell 9.2%. Exemplifying the shift away from fuel-sipping cars: The vaunted Prius hybrid suffered a 22.6% sales decline for the month to 12,474 vehicles. But the Highlander SUV rose 21.3%, outselling the Prius with a total of 12,937 units.

    10 May 2018

Hundred of thousands of BMW owners found out that their cars may have the same fault as the one that caused a death in a crash in 2016. The carmaker issued a recall which affects around 312, 00 UK vehicles after a BBC investigation showed the scale of the problem.  The affected models are BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 diesel and petrol models that were made between March 2007 and August 2011. Narayan Gurung died on Christmas Day 2016 when he crashed into a tree in Hampshire while swerving to avoid a BMW which stalled due to an electrical fault. An investigation by BBC Watchdog, t...

  • Diesel Cars VS Electric Cars
    17 May 2019

Between loyal customers and car dealers lie an important dilemma that begs for an answer - What is the future of diesel cars and electric vehicles? Today at RepoKar, we are ready to tackle this predicament.Auto manufacturers and the combustible industries have often mentioned the idea that electric cars are worse for the environment than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles because they are powered by dirty electricity. If we want to talk about fuel efficiency, noise pollution, and air quality, then EVs are clearly the outright winner. But if we're talking about torque or initial price, the...

  • Fire Risk: BMW Recalls 185,000 Cars TODAY
    19 Apr 2019

The recall expansion covers 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4 models from the 2006 model year. The problem has been traced to irregularities in the manufacturing process that could allow moisture to occur near the PCV valve heater and lead to a short circuit. The PCV valve is an emissions device that keeps pollutants created by an engine from being released into the atmosphere. It also helps keep the engine oil clean and prevents crankcase pressure from building up. BMW warns its customers to stop driving the vehicle if there is smoke coming from the engine, or if the driver smells smoke or plast...
