2017 Acura NSX, a car that starts at $156,000—went up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in Arizona on Friday night, and Hendrick’s bid of $1.2 million broke the record for highest-selling designated VIN No. 0001 in the auction’s history. The proceeds aren’t for profit, though—all of the money spent by the Hendrick Motorsports owner and Hendrick Automotive Group founder will be split between two charities.
The hybrid all-wheel drive Acura NSX sports car is powered by a complex Sport Hybrid Power Unit powertrain. The rear axle is driven by a 500 hp/550 Nm 3.5 litre DOHC twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and a 47 hp/148 Nm Direct Drive Motor. Two more motors exclusively power the front axle. The front-mounted Twin Motor Unit (TMU) puts out 72 hp (36 hp at each wheel) and 146 Nm. Collectively, the NSX has a total system output of 573 hp and 645 Nm.
Also one lucky buyer in Florida became the world’s first customer for Rolls-Royce’s new convertible, the 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn, after posting a winning bid of $750,000 at the Naples Winter Wine Festival on Saturday. The Dawn, the second convertible in Rolls-Royce’s lineup after the Phantom drophead, comes with a 6.6-liter, twin-turbo V12 engine that makes 563 horsepower.
