The mysterious electric automaker Faraday Future plans to start construction on a $1 billion factory in Nevada early next year if state legislators approve incentives and tax breaks worth $215 million.
Nevada officials scheduled a conference in Las Vegas on Thursday that includes a formal announcement of an agreement to bring the plant to North Las Vegas. Tax incentives to seal the deal would need authorization from Nevada lawmakers, who approved a $1.3 billion incentive package in a special session last year to secure electric carmaker Tesla Motors’ massive battery factory outside of Reno.
Dag Reckhorn, Faraday Future's vice president of global manufacturing, said the incentives from Nevada were an “important piece” of the decision but not the only factor. He said Nevada was also appealing because of the ample land needed to accommodate the plant, and it was close enough to Southern California seaports.
The facility is something more than an ordinary 'assembly line,' according to the statement, and will include 280,000 square metres for passionate creators and diligent visionaries, where new concepts will be refined and implemented. It will create 4,500 jobs in the region.
