The 3 hottest-selling new vehicles of 2017

If we take a look at the list of 2017's hottest U.S. vehicles, we'll see that none of them are passenger cars. Americans are fleeing passenger cars in droves. Instead, they're embracing roomy crossovers, sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks with vastly improved fuel economy over days gone by. Here were 2017's three hottest-selling vehicles.

Ford F-series: The Blue Oval automaker's marquee nameplate easily maintained its title as the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. Sales were up 9.3% for the year. With sales of 896,764 units for the year, the vehicle accounted for more than 5% of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2017.

Audi Q5: The mid-size crossover retained its crown as the Volkswagen Group luxury brand's best seller in 2017 and extended its lead over the next-closest model. A recent redesign added a fresh dose of momentum to a vehicle that was already hot. The company sold 57,640 units of the Q5 in 2017, up 16.3% on the year.

Buick Envision: The General Motors model has answered the industry's longstanding question of whether Americans would buy a vehicle assembled in China. The answer, it turns out, is a resounding yes. GM sold 41,040 units of the Envision in 2017, making it Buick's third-best seller. If it were a Cadillac, the Envision would rank as the brand's second-best seller.

General Motors promised us other things but that’s how it all turned to be, even if it said it will invest $1 billion in U.S. factories now it announced to temporarily cut off 1,100 workers in May as its Lansing Delta Township assembly plant in Michigan shifts production to Tennessee. Last year it added 800 jobs at its spring hill, Tennessee plant to build the new version of GMC Acadia SUV.  The Lansing plant will continue building the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse after it retools for a month. GM also has announced other U.S. factory cuts. U.S. President Donald Trump ha...

  • Less car buyers consider switching to electric cars
    19 Feb 2018

Just 200,000 plug-in electric cars were sold in the U.S. last year. Although that's the highest number yet, it's still just a little more than 1 percent of the market. Nowadays the general car-buying public at large is aware that EVs exist, but most of them consider that electric cars are not viable and practical.   According to the recent data from California, the state's buyers are no more aware of electric vehicles than they were three years ago, when far fewer of them were available. This makes electric-car advocates worry that growing electric-car sales will arrive o...

  • BMW pokes fun at Audi by placing an unusual billboard
    09 Feb 2018

In Tunis a local BMW dealer poked fun at his competitor by placing a billboard saying "It's never too late to change your mind." The billboard was placed just a few meters from the dealer center selling various VAG products, including Audis, Porsches and VWs.   As the footnote shows, the billboard was commissioned by Ben Jemâa Motors, an official BMW and Mini dealer in Tunisia. Just a few days later Audi issued a prompt response to BMW’s passive-aggressive message. The new billboard starting with a big “LOOOL” at the...
