  • Overall U.S. auto sales fell 7% this July
    01 Aug 2017

As automakers are doing their best to get rid off too much inventory, buyers can expect sweeter deals on small and mid-size cars. This July wasn’t expected to be a good month for US car sales but at the same time, the data are not so bad. Overall auto sales fell 7% from a year earlier to 1.42 million vehicles.  Buyers will eventually have fewer choices of passenger cars as automakers shift more of their engineering resources into crossovers, SUVs and pickups. Average discounts per vehicle rose 5% to about $3,600, compared with a year earlier. Meanwhile, transaction prices ...

  • Fiat Chrysler will recall 1.33 million cars over fire, airbag risks
    16 Jul 2017

FCA says it is recalling 1.33 million vehicles worldwide in two separate campaigns for potential fire risks and inadvertent airbag deployments. The automaker said it is recalling about 770,000 SUVs because of a wiring issue that may lead to inadvertent deployment of the driver-side airbag and is linked to reports of five related minor injuries, but no crashes.   The company said wiring could chafe against pieces of steering-wheel trim, potentially causing a short-circuit and ultimately leading to an inadvertent airbag deployment. The recall covers 538,000 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehi...

  • VW Touareg killed from US lineup?
    13 Jul 2017

After years of slow sales, Volkswagen is finally killing off the Touareg for the US market. Despite the ever-growing popularity of SUVs and crossovers, the Touareg never quite made a mark in America. Sales of the near-luxury SUV were down 26 percent in the first half of 2017, with just 1,630 units rolling off dealer lots. There's no one reason for the decline in sales, but the premium price tag cannot have helped.  The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg starts at $50,405 in the US, with the top of the range Executive trim starting at $61,105. For reference, the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas...

  • BMW vows to win back the crown Mercedes just took from it
    12 Jul 2017

As demand for the new E-class and SUVs rose, Mercedes-Benz took the lead in the luxury-car sales segment, its sales rose up to 11% in June. As we know for years, BMW, Audi and Mercedes have always been competitors to each other, being three most well-known and trusted German automakers. For so many years the first sales spot between them has been taken by BMW, and only know Mercedes was able to outrun it.  Sales of BMW brand vehicles rose 2 percent to 192,873 last month, while third-placed Audi saw sales rise 1 percent to 170,650. Through June, Mercedes sold ...
