  • Car sales in Amarillo drop significantly
    06 Nov 2016

The US car sales are down and of course, Amarillo is not an exception. It's been revealed that local dealers sell 21% less new cars, comparing to the same month last year. New auto sales have dropped 0.2% across the nation. It includes the first three-month consecutive decline the car market has seen since the recession.  Cars tend to sell better in spring and summer than fall for myriad reasons, Amarillo National Bank senior vice president John T. McElyea said. Parents will buy new vehicles in anticipation of summer vacation road trips. When their kids return to school in the fa...

  • BMW recalls 5 Series, 6 Series, X5, and X6 models for fuel leaks?
    30 Oct 2016

BMW is recalling 136,188 vehicles in the United States and another 18,284 in Canada due to improperly crimped wiring for the fuel pump in the gas tank. The affected models are: 2010-2011 5-Series Gran Turismo2011-2012 528I2011-2012 535I2011-2012 550I2012 640I2012 650I2007-2011 X52008-2011 X62010-2011 X6 ACTIVEHYBRID  The in-tank fuel pumps on these vehicles have insufficiently crimped wire contacts. This causes an increase in contact resistance and extra heat. Over time, the plastic around the contact pins can melt, and this can allow fuel to leak. If the pump isn’t workin...

  • Lexus, Toyota and Buick top new auto reliability survey
    24 Oct 2016

Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus and Toyota brands held their lead atop Consumer Reports’ annual reliability rankings, while General Motors Co.’s 117-year-old Buick line became the first from the U.S. to win one of the list’s top three places. The survey, a buying bible to car shoppers that has been dominated by Japanese automakers, has more international representation this year. As other automakers catch up to Japan’s manufacturers, both Subaru and Honda tumbled from the top group of “more reliable” brands, with Honda’s Civic compact car losing its l...

  • The demand of trucks forces US manufacturers to close their factories
    11 Oct 2016

U.S. auto makers, responding to weaker demand for sedans and other passenger cars amid low gasoline prices, are rebalancing production at U.S. factories in favor of building more sport-utility vehicles and trucks.  General Motors Co. said it plans to add 650 hourly workers in Tennessee at a plant making the GMC Acadia and the Cadillac XT5, two midsize SUVs. Idled for three years after the auto maker’s 2009 bankruptcy, the Spring Hill, Tenn., factory is playing an increasingly important role in GM’s U.S. operations. The job additions come a day after Ford Motor Co. idled a...

  • These 10 pickup trucks rule the industry
    05 Oct 2016

Considering the gas prices are low as never before, Americans continue to show how much they are into big pickup trucks. A look at the top-selling new vehicles in the first nine months of the year shows that the U.S.' big three automakers are still the kings.  Ford has the nation's best selling vehicle with its F-150, the next one comes General Motors with its Chevrolet Silverado, and the third one of course belongs to Fiat Chrysler's Ram 1500. The Ram's sales are up the most among these three models, with 8.6% more than the same period last year. The same three were ...
