Apple is facing a lawsuit in California for declining to deploy technology that could prevent iPhone users from texting while driving. The complaint claims that Apple has had the ability to block texting capabilities while someone is driving since 2008, and seeks to halt all sales of the iPhone until the tech giant installs the preventative software. The plaintiff, Julio Ceja, was injured in a car accident by another driver who was using her iPhone. The proposed class action seeks to represent all California residents. The lawsuit isn’t the first time Apple has faced legal tro...
Used-vehicle sales are set to rise again in 2017 after jumping 4 percent last year, the fastest pace since the Great Recession. Despite the projected sales increase, demand is unlikely to keep up with rising wholesale vehicle supplies as more off-lease vehicles return to the market. The growth is going to occur, but it is not going to occur as fast as the increase in wholesale supply. As a result, there will be downward pressure on used-vehicle prices. Questions about Uber's driver screening aren't about to go away any time soon. He had also been arrested for drug and gambling charges that should have been red flags, according to the suit. An Uber attorney had no comment. ...
Automakers are on pace to build more new cars and light trucks in 2016 than in any other year, but efforts to reduce bloated inventories next year could lead to North America's first production decline since the Great Recession. Record car sales paces in the U.S., Canada and Mexico have kept plants busy. About 15 North American plants reportedly were running overtime through last week, nearly four times as many as the same period a year ago. Most of those plants build trucks. But automakers are already preparing for a production reckoning in 2017. Ford Motor Co., General Motors ...
A U.S. judge in New Jersey on Tuesday threw out a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that Mercedes misled consumers about emissions standards in "BlueTec Clean Diesel" vehicles. Plaintiffs claimed Mercedes falsely advertised the BlueTec vehicles as having lower emissions. They said that they later found that the emissions were higher than U.S. standards permitted. The judge said the plaintiffs failed to show they actually viewed any of Mercedes' advertisements touting the cleaner technology. He gave them leave to revise their complaint. Automakers that market diese...
