Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday issued two recalls for approximately 3,000 vehicles in North America. The largest involves a call-back of about 2,500 2017 Explorer SUVs, F-150 and Super Duty pickups. The affected vehicles have an improper weld between the driver seat back and the manually operated seat back recliner mechanism that may fail to comply with certain federal motor vehicle safety standards. The vehicles include:• 2017 Ford F-150s built at Dearborn Assembly Plant from Dec. 11 2016 to Dec. 16, 2016.• 2017 F-150s built at Kansas City Assembly Plant Dec. 8, 2016 to Dec....
According to the National Safety Council, there are more than 27,000 car accidents each and every day in the United States. Nobody is seriously injured in the majority of these crashes, but the vehicles definitely sustain damage, and not all of that damage is reported to insurance agencies or repaired. In most cases accident damage is "typically reported by an insurance agency or body shop," while other times "visible paintwork or damage was highlighted by an inspector, but un-flagged by a vehicle history report." FCA is on its way to recall more than 1.25 million pickups worldwide for a software error linked to reports of crash death and 2 injuries. This erroneous code could temporarily disable the side airbag and deployment seat of belt pretensioners- which reduce seat belt slack during impacts during a vehicle rollover spurred by a significant underbody impact, such as striking onroad debris or driving off-road. The company will reprogram computer modules in the affected vehicles to address this error. An FCA spokesman said the likelihood of an incident was very low because a sequence...
Ontario plans to become the first province to allow self-driving vehicles to be tested on public roads. Testing of autonomous or self-driving vehicles can begin as early as Jan. 1, as Ontario seeks to grab a share of the billions of dollars auto makers, parts companies and technology giants are spending to develop cars that drive themselves. The province’s move will create better opportunities for Canadian companies to test components and show automakers their technologies. The prospect of self-driving cars was believed to be decades away, but tech companies and automakers are...
More than 71,700 models of Kia Sportage crossovers from U.S. were recalled by Kia Motors America. The affected crossovers are from the 2008 and 2009 model years and were assembled between Aug. 9, 2007, and May 13, 2009. The cover on the Sportage’s braking control unit might not be sealed properly, Kia said in documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Should the water be mixed with road salt, as could be the case with melted snow, a wire harness connector could corrode, potentially leading to a short circuit and fire, Kia said. The automaker &ldqu...
