  • VW Touareg killed from US lineup?
    13 Jul 2017

After years of slow sales, Volkswagen is finally killing off the Touareg for the US market. Despite the ever-growing popularity of SUVs and crossovers, the Touareg never quite made a mark in America. Sales of the near-luxury SUV were down 26 percent in the first half of 2017, with just 1,630 units rolling off dealer lots. There's no one reason for the decline in sales, but the premium price tag cannot have helped.  The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg starts at $50,405 in the US, with the top of the range Executive trim starting at $61,105. For reference, the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas...

  • Main reasons why the U.S. car sales have peaked
    18 May 2017

We’ve been a bit worried about the car market after Ford Motor announced that it plans to cut 10 percent of its salaried workers. General Motors didn’t show better results, it reported a 4.7 percent sales drop on April, just like Fiat Chrysler who might get sued for using illegal software which violate the U.S. clean-air rules. We’ve been trying to understand the reasons for the slump, and here’s what we got:   Demand has peaked. Last year, there was a record vehicle sales volume of 17.55 million. But the National Automobile Dealers Association forecasts ...

  • U.S. March car sales go up about 1.9%
    27 Mar 2017

March U.S. new vehicle sales will be about 1.62 million units, that’s up about 1.9% from 1.59 million units a year earlier. The forecast was base on the first 16 selling days of the month. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate for the month will be 17.3 million vehicles, up from 16.8 million a year earlier.  Retail sales to consumers, which do not include multiple fleet sales to rental agencies, businesses and government, were set to increase 1 percent in March. Highlighting "policy uncertainty" over whether Republican U.S. President Donald Trump will press ahead wi...

  • Ford F-Series leads all US car sales for the 35th consecutive year
    05 Jan 2017

The F-series, best known for the popular F-150, has been America’s best-selling truck for the 40 consecutive years since its launch. Ford says it’s sold more than 26 million since the model line came out in 1977. The F-series has also been the best-selling vehicle of any kind in America for 35 years, the company said. Ford has sold 818,580 of the trucks in the years since it launched the F-series. It started with the F-100 as a base truck back in 1977, and replaced it with the F-150 in 1984.  The evolution of the F-series followed changes in how people perceived and used ...

  • BMW aims to sell 100,000 all-electric and plug-in models next year
    15 Nov 2016

Electric cars are coming, like it or not. Some companies are trying to get ahead of the curve, like BMW, which has high aspirations for electric sales volume in the coming year. Longer range, more sales. That's a very simplified version of what BMW is hoping from its plug-in vehicle line up. In fact, Bimmer is expecting to sell as many electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in 2017 as it has for the past three years combined.  BMW will sell about 60,000 plug-in vehicles this year, and is hoping to boost that annual total to 100,000 units for 2017. The key to this lofty goal is the...
