U.S. regulators said that they did not found any defects in Tesla electric cars after investigating the death of a man whose Model S collided a truck while he was using its Autopilot system, which was the first serious accident involving semi-autonomous software. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a report it will not seek a vehicle recall after conducting a six-month investigation. The crash drew enormous attention and raised questions about the safety of systems that can perform driving tasks for long stretches with little or no human intervention.&nbs...
Apple is facing a lawsuit in California for declining to deploy technology that could prevent iPhone users from texting while driving. The complaint claims that Apple has had the ability to block texting capabilities while someone is driving since 2008, and seeks to halt all sales of the iPhone until the tech giant installs the preventative software. The plaintiff, Julio Ceja, was injured in a car accident by another driver who was using her iPhone. The proposed class action seeks to represent all California residents. The lawsuit isn’t the first time Apple has faced legal tro...
Questions about Uber's driver screening aren't about to go away any time soon. He had also been arrested for drug and gambling charges that should have been red flags, according to the suit. An Uber attorney had no comment. ...
Not even a week has passed since Uber introduced a fleet of self-driving Volvo XC90s to the streets of San Francisco, all in defiance of California regulators telling Uber to stop. Since then, the autonomous Volvos have been seen running red lights, ignoring stop signs, and failing to yield to pedestrians, obviously all dangerous and illegal moves. It seems there is one more problem to add to that list, as Uber has admitted to The Guardian that its vehicles have problems navigating through bike lanes. Like with the other incidents, there have been first-hand reports of Uber's Vo...
A group of automakers and tech firms advocating for autonomous vehicles has called on U.S. regulators to change federal auto safety standards that effectively prohibit the operation of a car without the presence of a driver. The Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets wants the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to amend certain Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards that it says limit fully autonomous vehicles, the group said in a statement. The group, whose founding members are Ford Motor Co., Google, Volvo, Uber and Lyft, also called on Congress to enact legislation ...
