  • May U.S. auto sales projected to rise slightly
    26 May 2017

U.S. new-vehicle sales are expected to rise very slightly in May from a year ago, narrowly snapping the industry's streak of four consecutive monthly declines. Analysts expect 2017 sales of 17.2 million, 2 percent fewer than the record 17.55 million sold last year. The annualized selling rate is projected to be less than 17 million for a third consecutive month, more evidence that the market has passed its peak. That would mean the industry will already have had as many sub-17 million months in 2017 as it did in each of the past two full years.  Other forecasts project sales-volu...

  • Main reasons why the U.S. car sales have peaked
    18 May 2017

We’ve been a bit worried about the car market after Ford Motor announced that it plans to cut 10 percent of its salaried workers. General Motors didn’t show better results, it reported a 4.7 percent sales drop on April, just like Fiat Chrysler who might get sued for using illegal software which violate the U.S. clean-air rules. We’ve been trying to understand the reasons for the slump, and here’s what we got:   Demand has peaked. Last year, there was a record vehicle sales volume of 17.55 million. But the National Automobile Dealers Association forecasts ...

  • The car sales slowdown has its pluses
    16 May 2017

After 7 years of car sales growth new auto sales have declined 4.7 percent, following a 1.6 percent decline in March. Car manufacturers spent average of $3,814 per car sold in the first part of April but despite that the drop occurred.  For total industry sales to reach a peak and start declining isn't a surprise to anyone, and it could be great for car buyers moving forward. Even carmakers don't seem to be terribly concerned with the decline in the number of total vehicles sold, as they're making more on each car they sell right now because their product mix is more heav...

  • BMW 5 Series is the most wanted car of the brand?
    24 Apr 2017

BMW dealers asking for more of the newly launched 2017 BMW 5 Series cars. They say they don’t have enough of the product. It’s not like they beg for more, but since there are a lot of interested buyers they really need more supply.  At the end of March, BMW had just 200 unsold sedans in dealer inventory. They began arriving at dealerships on mid-February. Customers had preordered about about 2,000. Production and deliveries have ramped up since the end of March, a BMW spokesman said. Dealers on average should have a two- to three-week supply now during the launch. For the...

  • Online car websites uptaking the crown from car dealerships?
    13 Apr 2017

Emily Hurwitz is an advertising supervisor from San Francisco and she doesn’t like buying cars from traditional dealers, and she prefers buying cars from online platforms which unite car sellers and car buyers.  Recently she has bought a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan through such a platform and is really happy with the purchase. What does she say about car dealerships? Well, she’s not very impressed with them in a few words, because she somehow is convinced they will swindle her. “You’re talking to a guy who’s sizing you up. It’s a very overwhelming situa...
