People across the world, show more support for electric cars, and automakers start to deliver even more electric vehicles with longer range and lower prices. China even set an aggressive target for electric vehicle sales, in order to curb pollution, European countries aim to be all-electric by 2040 or sooner. Those lofty ambitions face numerous challenges, including one practical consideration for consumers: If they buy electric cars, where will they charge them? The distribution of public charging stations is wildly uneven around the globe. Places with lots of support from governme...
Workers from two Chicago plants have sued Ford Motor Co. for sexual and racial harassment. After an investigation made by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission the company agreed to pay $10.1 million to settle the scandal. The investigation yielded reasonable cause that personnel at the Chicago Assembly Plant and the Chicago Stamping Plant had subjected African-American and female employees to racial and sexual harassment -- violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The agency also said the company retaliated against employees who complained about harassment or discr...
Chevrolet aims to update its lineup by adding a budget V8 Camaro. Offering a cheaper V8 would be fantastic both from an enthusiast standpoint and from a sales perspective. Everyone likes the current Camaro with its 455-hp V8, but the $37,995 price makes it a tough sell when it's a full $2,000 more than the now more powerful 2018 Ford Mustang GT. It's also almost $4,000 more than both the outgoing 2017 Mustang GT and the Challenger R/T, the most affordable V8 Challenger. We think that if Chevy could offer a bare-bones model for a couple-thousand dollars less, perhaps without...
With Tesla Model 3 deliveries beginning, July may be the last month for a while in which the growth of green-car sales in the U.S. can be measured with some sense of accuracy and perspective, as all signs point to a spike in year-over-year growth from here on out. And with that in mind, things didn't look great last month. In fact, year-over-year sales of hybrids and plug-in vehicles were down for the first time this year, falling 9.6 percent from a year earlier to about 37,600 units. Plug-in-vehicle sales remained on the positive side of the ledger, though they slowed to a 16 ...
Despite the good promotion and ecstatic headlines about the new Tesla Model 3, the car hasn’t managed yet to become number 1, the green market is still being dominated by its big sister Model S. The Chevy Bolt, with a record sales month, took the #2 spot, inching out my estimate for the Model X. After that, the plug-in hybrid Toyota Prius Prime and Chevy Volt round out the top 5. Despite the addition of some extremely quick competitors on its track, the Nissan LEAF landed a healthy monthly sales total — still well above 1,000 cars a month — to take the #6 spot. Aft...
