  • Bosch investing $1,1 billion in chips for autonomous vehicles
    19 Jun 2017

Auto supplier Robert Bosch is investing $1,1 billion in its semiconductor plant. The company has never made such big investments before, which means this deal it’s planning right now is really worth it. The factory in Dresden, Germany, will start producing chips needed for autonomous vehicles, smart homes and Internet-linked city infrastructure in 2021. It’ll employ as many as 700 workers once construction is complete in 2019.  Bosch, known as a maker of traditional car parts such as braking systems and combustion engines, is also a long-time software developer and is inc...

  • Wall Street dials back U.S. sales outlook as Trump bump fades
    09 Jun 2017

Analysts are lowering estimates for 2017 vehicle sales after five months of industrywide deliveries declining from a year earlier. Among the reasons: automakers are showing more restraint on discounts than expected and gridlock in Washington reduces the likelihood of a second-half surge. Analysts reduced their full-year projections this spring, dialing the consensus back to 17.2 million light vehicles. The industry set a record with 17.55 million cars and light trucks sold last year, aided by a jump in shipments to rental-car companies and other fleet buyers.  The auto industry has b...

  • The U.S. economy under pressure as the car sales drop
    23 May 2017

Since the US auto sales were steadily rising, they have helped the country to recover economically, but now as the car sales drop and the economy is also under pressure. US carmakers have started to idle workers for months at a time.Trump has touted the auto sector - which he previously lambasted for moving production to Mexico - as proof of his programme's success. "We're going to have expansion," he told reporters last week.  Following seven years of steady growth that led to sales records in 2015 and 2016, deliveries of new vehicles in the US dropped 4.7 per cent...

  • The car sales slowdown has its pluses
    16 May 2017

After 7 years of car sales growth new auto sales have declined 4.7 percent, following a 1.6 percent decline in March. Car manufacturers spent average of $3,814 per car sold in the first part of April but despite that the drop occurred.  For total industry sales to reach a peak and start declining isn't a surprise to anyone, and it could be great for car buyers moving forward. Even carmakers don't seem to be terribly concerned with the decline in the number of total vehicles sold, as they're making more on each car they sell right now because their product mix is more heav...

  • 74% Increase In Electric Car Sales In US
    06 Apr 2017

What else interesting happened in the U.S. car industry aside from the Tesla being the leader in the electric car sales, and the big three carmakers revealing low car sales? Well, there are some stats you’ll also like to know from the March US car sales.   Firstly we’ll talk about the Nissan Leaf finally beating the Chevrolet Bolt, which was a “WOW” even for us, because we couldn’t predict that a year ago. On the flip side, it’s quite impressive to me that Nissan logged 1,478 sales of the LEAF. With the Bolt here (even if in limited supply) and the...
