  • Nissan is priced right for a tough environment
    09 Aug 2016

It's not a secret that the auto sales cycle may be turning stormy. Still, that doesn’t mean it is time to batten down the hatches. For those with a little faith in the future, Nissan Motor looks like a bargain. The U.S. auto sales appear to have downshifted for now. This spells tough times for Japan’s auto makers, which count the U.S. among their biggest markets.  Toyota Motor Corporation is also feeling more profit-sapping pain from the strong yen. This is due to the fact that a large portion of the vehicles it sells in the U.S. are imports from Japan. Honda and Niss...

  • Plug-in electric car sales in July: The slightly-better-news edition
    09 Aug 2016

July's green-car sales results, while still somewhat tepid, were enough to make auto-industry watchers downright patriotic, as increased demand for Ford and General Motors' hybrids and plug-in vehicles partially salvaged what was still a tough month. In fact, take out the impact of Volkswagen's continued stop-sale on diesel vehicles (of which more than 8,000 were sold in July 2015), and green-car sales were about dead-even with year-earlier figures. As it was, US green-car sales fell 17 percent to about 40,500 units. As for plug-in vehicles, demand spiked 20 percent from a year ear...

  • Toyota at a step from bankruptcy?
    04 Aug 2016

Toyota Motor corp. revealed that its car sales have suffered a powerful delay this month, by falling down to 15%. Its net income in the last three months has dropped to 552.47 yen. Though the yen has straightened about 11% against the dollar compared to the last year, and because of that the company has lost in exports, by becoming less competitive and cutting the value of repatriated earnings.  Toyota's managing officer said that the things are changing every day, by these words he meant the big foreign exchange rate swings. The company has lost an output of about 80,000 cars du...

  • Tesla reported a loss of $293m for the second quarter
    03 Aug 2016

One of the main questions surrounding Tesla is its ability to ramp up production to satisfy the almost 400,000 existing Model 3 orders, and the hundreds of thousands of orders that are supposed to follow. Past isn’t necessarily indicative of the future, but on Tesla’s earnings call just now things didn’t sound all roses.  The company ended up losing $293 million last quarter on a GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) basis, and $150 million on a non-GAAP basis, which takes into account things like leases that GAAP generally doesn’t adjust for. ...

  • Top 3 automakers saw declines in the US car sales
    02 Aug 2016

U.S. auto sales were expected to drop slightly in July. The weather was unusually hot and probably this kept buyers at home. According to sales figures for July, the substantial growth that lasted for more than five years in the resurgent U.S. automobile industry might finally be leveling off.  Gains by Nissan and Honda last month were overshadowed by declines at the world's three largest automakers – Ford, General Motors and Toyota. Overall, U.S. auto sales increased by only 0.7 percent. The data shows that sales declined by 3 percent at Ford Motor Co., in July, 4 percent ...
