  • Pininfarina May Become World’s First Luxury Electric Car Maker
    17 May 2018

Aston Martin will have luxury electric competition in the form of Pininfarina, which hopes to become a standalone luxury electric car maker. Pininfarina wants to expand its capability from a globally known design house to become the world’s first luxury electric car manufacturer.  The announcement was made at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show when CEO, Paulo Pininfarina, hinted that luxury electric vehicle strategy was now in the pipeline with parent company Mahindra. He said that his father’s dream was to build a car company as well as his grandfather’s, and now he plans ...

  • Nissan will gradually withdraw from diesel car market in Europe
    07 May 2018

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan will gradually lower the number of diesel cars that it sells in Europe reducing it to zero. This is a further sign of the weakening demand for this type of cars as customers worry about tax rises, bans, and restrictions related to diesel in many countries.  A spokeswoman from Nissan said that there would be a gradual withdrawal of diesel vehicles in Europe. A source last month had said that Nissan would cut hundreds of jobs at its Sunderland plant, which is Britain’s biggest car factory. The car making industry is facing a global regulatory crac...

  • Decreasing Demand for Traditional Cars Hurts Auto Makers
    01 May 2018

Auto sales slowed in April because of the continuing decline in demand for compact cars and sedans are setting a dark tone as car makers head into the summer selling season. Car sales decreased more than 5% this month compared with the same period last year, analysts think this is partially because there were two fewer selling days this month.  Oil prices going up and credit conditions getting tougher create concerns for car maker’s executives. Pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles continue to perform well amid relatively low fuel prices. But gasoline is continuing...

  • Ford And Chrysler Killing Sedans Favors Their Japanese Competitors
    27 Apr 2018

Ford Motor announced Wednesday that it’s killing sedans from its U.S. dealerships, exception making only its legendary Mustang. By saying good buy to Focus, Fusion, Fiesta, and Taurus, it will double down on trucks and sports utilities. The Focus nameplate will stick around, only in the form of a crossover utility.  Ford is not alone, though. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles already cut the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200, focusing on more profitable Jeep SUVs and Ram pickups. General Motors has been reducing its sedan production, also, cutting back on its Cruze compact production. C...

  • Ford declined GM's 9-speed offer
    22 Apr 2018

Ford decided not to go for the nine-speed transmission offered by General Motors. The company opted for 2 new eight-speed transmissions on vehicles such as the Ford Edge, Ford Transit Connect and Lincoln Nautilus.  The first of those is based off the nine-speed, dropping one of the gears. The second eight-speed, for higher-performance vehicles such as the upcoming Edge ST and V-6 version of the Nautilus, adapts a six-speed that was co-developed with GM as part of a 2002 tie-up. A third eight-speed is expected for smaller, lower-torque vehicles. Ford Motor Co. agre...
