Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday issued two recalls for approximately 3,000 vehicles in North America. The largest involves a call-back of about 2,500 2017 Explorer SUVs, F-150 and Super Duty pickups. The affected vehicles have an improper weld between the driver seat back and the manually operated seat back recliner mechanism that may fail to comply with certain federal motor vehicle safety standards.
The vehicles include:
• 2017 Ford F-150s built at Dearborn Assembly Plant from Dec. 11 2016 to Dec. 16, 2016.
• 2017 F-150s built at Kansas City Assembly Plant Dec. 8, 2016 to Dec. 9, 2016.
• 2017 Ford Explorers built at Chicago Assembly Plant Dec. 9, 2016 to Dec. 10, 2016.
• 2017 Super Duty trucks built at Kentucky Truck Plant Dec. 19, 2016 to Jan. 19, 2017.
• 2017 Super Duty trucks built at Ohio Assembly Plant Dec. 23, 2016 to Jan. 19, 2017.
The second issue involves about 551 2017 F-150, F-250 to F-550 trucks equipped with an aftermarket chrome door handle cover that could cause the handle to unlatch during a side impact. Ford said 551 kits for the handle cover were sold through Ford dealerships. Dealers are responsible for contacting customers, and the automaker will also publish an "awareness message" in case an affected vehicle is brought in for unrelated service. Both problems will be fixed for free. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries with either issue.
