Toyota Motor Corporation has recently declared that the company has recorded sales of 9 million hybrid vehicles. Toyota is currently selling thirty-three hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in more than ninety countries and regions.
The Japanese car maker has recorded sales of 9.014 million units as it was declared on April 30. As for the the hybrid revolution in particular, it started with the Prius, which was launched in December 1997 in Japan and then subsequently in Europe and America. Prius still remains one of the most popular and spread hybrids on the market. Toyota highlighted that the use of hybrid vehicles instead of the conventional vehicles of similar size and performance has resulted in approximately sixty seven million lesser tonnes of CO2 emissions and approximately saved twenty five million kilolitres of gasoline (petrol).
Although the sales numbers of the Prius have been dropping lately, it remains the only other EV besides the RAV4 Hybrid to achieve five-figure monthly sales in the US. It is also more than the total number of units sold in any given quarter last year and the first time the Prius sold more than 2,000 units in a month since 2012.
