Lionel Messi outbid Cristiano Ronaldo and has bought the most expensive Ferrari in the world - the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti.
The automobile was headed for sale at an auction in Paris. At the time, nobody knew who bought the car, but some reports suggested that famous football players (soccer, for our American readers) Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were interested in the car and placed bids.
According to a report started from a hint in the press release announcing the sale, Barcelona’s star player registered the highest offer and won, Sport.es reveals. However, the purchase has not been confirmed. Furthermore, sources close to Lionel Messi deny that the athlete is behind the acquisition.
The 1957 Ferrari in question is a beautiful, limited edition 335 Sport Spider Scaglietti. Finished in Ferrari’s signature red, this 335 was the first to break 200 kph (approx 124 mph) at the Le Mans 24 Hour. The car boasts 400-hp and a 4.1-liter V12 Tipo 140 engine.
