  • Slight increase in average fuel economy for cars sold in July
    09 Aug 2017

The average fuel economy of new light vehicles sold in the U.S. in July was 25.4 mpg, up 0.3 mpg from June, the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute said Tuesday. The increase is attributed to a decreased proportion of light trucks in the market in July compared to June. Year-over-year U.S. light-vehicle sales slid 6.9 percent in July, with car deliveries descending 14.8 percent. Across the truck segment, pickup sales dropped 1.1 percent while crossover sales increased 1.2 percent last month. Light-truck sales, including crossovers, were down 1.9 percent.  July...

    05 Jul 2017

Toyota Motor Corp. posted its first U.S. sales gain of the year, despite a continuing slide at Lexus, as light-truck deliveries overcame weakness in cars. The automaker's 2.1 percent increase ended a drought that had seen sales fall 4.7 percent through May. Lexus, however, dropped 5.4 percent, for its ninth consecutive monthly decline. Sales at Toyota Division, including a small number of vehicles from the defunct Scion brand, grew 3.2 percent last month to 177,981 vehicles.  For the first half of the year, the automaker reported a sales drop of 3.6 percent compared with the same...

  • Nothing lasts forever: Austin car sales cool down
    27 Jun 2017

We were already convinced Austin won’t be affected by the US car market getting cooler, since it had such a great 2017 start, but it seems like nothing’s forever. January car sales were up 10.4 percent and February sales surged 22.4 percent over the same months in 2016. Thanks to that strong start, through the end of May...
