A new report says that electric car sales are expected to massively increase in the next years, reaching 55 percent of global new car sales by 2040, replacing 7 percent of gas and diesel consumption. Sales of electric cars have just managed to top 1.1 million per year, but the report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance suggests that they are set to grow to 11 million in 2025 and topping 60 million vehicles, which will be about 55 percent of the new car market, by 2014. The prediction is that electric vehicles will replace 33 percent of the total global car fleet by then. Helping to le...
Volvo will not offer a diesel in its new S60 sedan, which will be released this spring. The new S60 will be available with a range of four-cylinder gasoline engines as well as two versions of its gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain. This move comes as Volvo accelerates its shift toward electrified powertrains and away from diesels, which accounted for almost 80 percent of its sales in Europe last year. Diesel sales have taken a hit in Europe because of potential bans on older, more polluting cars with the powertrain and the high cost of improvements to ensure that new d...
Hundred of thousands of BMW owners found out that their cars may have the same fault as the one that caused a death in a crash in 2016. The carmaker issued a recall which affects around 312, 00 UK vehicles after a BBC investigation showed the scale of the problem. The affected models are BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 diesel and petrol models that were made between March 2007 and August 2011. Narayan Gurung died on Christmas Day 2016 when he crashed into a tree in Hampshire while swerving to avoid a BMW which stalled due to an electrical fault. An investigation by BBC Watchdog, t...
Japanese car manufacturer Nissan will gradually lower the number of diesel cars that it sells in Europe reducing it to zero. This is a further sign of the weakening demand for this type of cars as customers worry about tax rises, bans, and restrictions related to diesel in many countries. A spokeswoman from Nissan said that there would be a gradual withdrawal of diesel vehicles in Europe. A source last month had said that Nissan would cut hundreds of jobs at its Sunderland plant, which is Britain’s biggest car factory. The car making industry is facing a global regulatory crac...
The average U.S. light-vehicle dealership managed their fixed operations department very well, considering their final repair and costs figures. In 2017, total repair orders written by that average dealership were flat, and so was the total parts inventory it carried — after both had risen at a double-digit clip the year before. That dealership also added more technicians — with the total rising to 19 per store from 16 in 2016 and 15 in 2015 — which helped to boost total parts and service sales, despite the repair-order slowdown. In addition, the total parts and service revenu...
