BMW AG is recalling about 1 million vehicles in North America for two separate issues involving fire risks and said it may expand the recalls to other countries. One recall covers 670,000 2006-2011 U.S. 3-Series vehicles to address a wiring issue for heating and air conditioning systems that may overheat and could increase the risk of a fire. The second recall covers 740,000 U.S. 2007-2011 vehicles with a valve heater that could rust and lead to a fire in rare cases. The recall includes some 128i vehicles, 3-Series, 5-Series and X3, X5 and Z4 vehicles. BMW spokesman Michael Rebstock...
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Tuesday it is recalling 494,000 medium and heavy-duty Ram pickup trucks, model years 2013-2017. The issue which caused this recall is that they could overheat and potentially cause a fire. The 2013-2017 model year Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups recalled have 6.7-liter diesel engines, including 443,000 vehicles in the United States. Fiat Chrysler said it is not aware of any injuries related to the issue, but has reports of a small number of fire-related incidents. The company will inspect and potentially replace the water pump. When it comes to driving cars with an internal combustion engine, catastrophic is not a word you generally want to hear. That’s especially true when the car in question has 707 hp and goes by the name Hellcat, be it the two-door Dodge Challenger or the four-door Dodge Charger. Going through the latest recall from FCA – which affects 1,209 Hellcat models sold only in 2017 – we don’t see catastrophic mentioned specifically. However, we can’t think of a better word to describe a rapid and sudden loss of oil that can seize the engine, spray onto the windshield, and po...
Sometimes you simply leave your car for service, and instead of getting it back fixed, you don't even get to see it at all, because it burned completely, until nothing has been left from it. This Tuesday night at this Chevrolet dealership, shortly after 7 p.m. a janitor was cleaning in the service building at Buff Whelan Chevrolet in Sterling Heights, Mich., and spilled cleaning supplies, causing what the fire chief called a "big ball of flame to erupt." About 30 vehicles were destroyed in a blaze. No one was reported injured, fire officials said. The cost of the damage...
FCA says it is recalling 1.33 million vehicles worldwide in two separate campaigns for potential fire risks and inadvertent airbag deployments. The automaker said it is recalling about 770,000 SUVs because of a wiring issue that may lead to inadvertent deployment of the driver-side airbag and is linked to reports of five related minor injuries, but no crashes. The company said wiring could chafe against pieces of steering-wheel trim, potentially causing a short-circuit and ultimately leading to an inadvertent airbag deployment. The recall covers 538,000 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehi...
