  • February car sales less resilient than anticipated
    01 Mar 2017

We were expecting for car sales to calm down in February, but despite all the expectations and predictions we were still hoping for better results. Bad news, U.S. auto sales showed to be even less resilient this month than anticipated. If we have to compare these results with February last year, than they are down 1.1%. Automakers like General Motors (GM), American Honda Motor Co., and Nissan North America reported new-car sales gains from a year ago. Volkswagen Group, plus the premium German nameplates and three independent brands, also posted sales increases. However, Ford Motor Co. (Ford) a...

    07 Feb 2017

Nissan Motor Co., Renault SA and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. combined delivered 9.96 million vehicles last year. The three automakers chaired by Ghosn finished fewer than 4,000 cars and trucks short of GM’s deliveries in 2016 and within about 350,000 units of new worldwide leader Volkswagen AG. Ghosn emphasized the scale Renault and Nissan would add by coming to the aid of Japanese peer Mitsubishi M...

  • Volkswagen – world's No 1 carmaker despite diesel emissions scandal?
    30 Jan 2017

This may surprise you, but Volkswagen has become the world’s biggest car manufacturer, overtaking Toyota in the number of new vehicles sold in 2016 despite the damage it suffered in the diesel emissions scandal. Toyota had been the biggest seller for the past four years but its 2016 sales total of just under 10.2m vehicles, fell short of the more than 10.3m cars sold by VW.  General Motors is reporting its 2016 sales next week, but industry analysts said it had no chance of overtaking VW. GM was third behind VW last year and held the top spot in 2011, when Toyota’s produc...
