The three-door hatchback gives off a sporty two-door coupe vibe, while still retaining the practicality of a hatchback. Sadly, the popularity of two-door coupes has been waning in favor of SUVs and practical three-door hatchbacks have suffered as a result. Volkswagen has already killed off three-door versions of the Golf GTI and Golf R. VW has recently announced the end of several other three-door hatchbacks including the Beetle, Polo, Scirocco, and Up, as well as the Audi A3. Even in Europe where hatchbacks are popular, VW now only sells three three-door hatchbacks: the Audi A1, th...
Fiat Chrysler is recalling 1.4 million Ram pickup trucks across the US to upgrade their tailgate locking mechanisms. After an investigation, the company discovered the power locking mechanisms in the tailgates of certain pickups have a small internal component that may break over time. This could cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving, spilling the cargo onto the road and potentially causing an accident. The company says it is not aware of any related injuries or accidents. Specifically, the recall affects certain Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from model years 2015 t...
Because of low gas prices, people are trading their small cars for large trucks and SUVs. Back in 2013, the US car market was split between cars and trucks, but trucks have seen a massive boom in popularity. Automotive News reports that through May 2018, trucks outsold cars by two-to-one. Automakers like Ford are changing their strategies, killing off small sedans and hatchbacks to focus on SUVs and mid-size trucks. Many experts predict that truck sales will continue to grow well into the next decade. As trucks become more popular, cars are experiencing their worst sales year in dec...
Everyone’s wondering what would a Google-branded vehicle be like. And it turns out that Waymo won’t be spending millions spending billions on assembly plants and the development of its own vehicles and platforms. The company is partnering with automakers to use their cars and trucks to showcase its technology brand and develop a lineup of vehicles. The brand-building approach takes a page from the old Saleen and Shelby works, tuners and stylists of limited-edition, high-performance vehicles based on Ford Mustangs and pickups. But it's a more democratic version of that concept. T...
Just like we have previously reported you, April wasn’t the best month for major automakers. Ford, Nissan, Fiat Chrysler and even Toyota have presented low car sales data, and here it comes Subaru with the best April in its history. The gain is entirely attributable to the Crosstrek, which is all-new for 2018. Sales of the compact, raised crossover climbed almost 70 percent for the month to 12,266. Year to date, Subaru has sold 45,728 Crosstreks, an increase of 66.6 percent. That helped push Subaru's total U.S. sales to 53,170 in April and 202,873 fo...
