  • Japanese Automakers Team Up To Build Better Transmissions
    20 Jun 2018

As the automotive industry becomes more global, automakers try to be competitive through any means possible. Some companies are very particular about which suppliers they use, others have decided to join their efforts to simplify and improve their products. Automotive News Europe reports that Japanese car makers are following suit to develop their own new transmission technology.  The country’s nine automakers, including Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and others, will partner with the country’s two largest transmission suppliers to jointly develop next-generation t...

  • Car Dealer Tactics Stall Electric Car Sales
    30 May 2018

Car dealerships in Scandinavia, and perhaps beyond, have something against electric vehicles. That’s the conclusion of an investigation conducted by researchers in Nordic countries, where they visited car dealerships and found agents actively discouraging buying electric cars.  To conduct the investigative study, the researchers visited 82 car dealerships in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland. In two-thirds of their visits, agents steered the researchers toward gas-powered cars, sometimes dismissing electric vehicles outright. In three-fourths of the visits, ve...

  • Less car buyers consider switching to electric cars
    19 Feb 2018

Just 200,000 plug-in electric cars were sold in the U.S. last year. Although that's the highest number yet, it's still just a little more than 1 percent of the market. Nowadays the general car-buying public at large is aware that EVs exist, but most of them consider that electric cars are not viable and practical.   According to the recent data from California, the state's buyers are no more aware of electric vehicles than they were three years ago, when far fewer of them were available. This makes electric-car advocates worry that growing electric-car sales will arrive o...

    15 Nov 2017

With the launch of GM’s next-generation EV platform in 2021 the company is pretty convinced its electrified vehicle business will get more profitable. Automakers have been losing money for years on all-electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Bolt in exchange for meeting tighter environmental regulations while positioning themselves for an expected increase in demand for alternative powertrains.  General Motors plans to sell 1 million EVs annually by 2026, driven by ongoing cost reductions and the debut of at least 20 new all-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles globally by ...

  • Where will drivers recharge their EVs?
    30 Oct 2017

If you want the growth of electric sales to happen, you need to provide customers with reliable public charging infrastructure. Today in the U.S. there are only 16,457 EV charging stations, with 44,999 outlets in operation, mostly on the coasts, but also including Tesla's network of Superchargers along major intercity corridors and other superfast charging stations. The presence and visibility of these stations should help build confidence among consumers thinking about buying battery EVs that they will be able to charge wherever they want. But once people live with an EV, they often ...
